The road not taken

Thank god the weekend is over

People say its sin to lose your temper. “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you…” (Ephesians 4:32) .

When we lose our temper, we say and do things which we almost certainly regret later. And more often then not, we end up hurting our dear ones. I can count the number of times I’ve lost my temper in last few years. So much so, that my friends accuse me of being emotionless. My best friend says she doesn’t want to be like me – she thinks we need to be emotional at times.

In fact, not very long ago, I did admit to her that at times its better to be an emotional fool rather then being a practical stupid. Specially after the realisation that we all act super cool at times.

I like the fact that I can ignore most of the things around me. I know how to differentiate between important and small things. Small and meaningless issues have never bothered me. At times I wonder if anything affects me emotionally?

I’m not sure it was because of this or something else, but I lost my temper 4 times during the weekend. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be a horrible weekend.

First of all, I had a fight with Ships (my best friend) over a stupid issue. Guess she was in a bad mood (she always is these days). And I was not in a great mood either. In fact, the whole week was very frustrating. It being a Diwali week, nobody was working which delayed few of my jobs. There were few other issues which added to make it a ‘zero output’ week overall (both professionally & personally).

And when Ships opposed a suggestion, specially when I had just returned after another frustrating day at work, I lost it completely. Thankfully, both of us didn’t try to solve it then and there and only few messages were exchanged.

So, when I got a call from the lady with the hot legs who wanted to hijack me again for a drive at around midnight, I gladly accepted (not that she gives me a choice anyways). In fact, during the course of the day, we have had a “SMS fight” already and we had exchanged few nasty messages.

What I didn’t know was that she wanted to sort it out during the drive. I was already in a very bad mood and the last thing I wanted was a matured and serious discussion (I’m not justifying myself – in fact I was being unreasonable). In short, the long drive was a disaster.

And just when I thought the worst was already over, I had a terrible fight with a friend who is an air hostess and was in town for the weekend. So much so, that she walked out of my house slamming the door on my face.

And to add salt to my wound, I had a terrible argument with my cousin over buying a LCD TV.

To be honest, I don’t remember when was the last time I fought with people. I do admit that I’ve started losing my temper more often now, but then I don’t react most of the times. I prefer ignoring things but this weekend was an exception. Whatever the reasons were, I know I was in a very bad mood.

Though for some reason, I’ve a feeling that I’m still not in a very good mood. But thankfully, nobody has poked me yet. And I promise I’ll try and behave. These guys know me too well to remain upset for long (all four of them are ok now). But maybe, someone wouldn’t take my nonsense. Hopefully, that someone will not meet me anytime soon – because I’ve a feeling a big fight is just round the corner.

Pair of hot legs

Posted by pratyush on October 24, 2008

Shut up Pratyush! you don’t need to lose more weight. You are just perfect”.

I was jogging when this lady called me and ask me if I would like to come out for coffee and a small drive. She has this habit of “hijacking” me for long/short drives in Mumbai.

I told her I was jogging and will take another hour and this is what the answer was. And trust me guys, most of the times you cannot argue with women – there is no point.

She told me she will come and pick me up from the park where I go for jogging – I was not given an option anyways. And since the lady doesn’t stay very far from the place, she reached there before I could complete my stretching. Her Car was standing right outside the park. And its only when I took the passenger seat that I realized that the lady was wearing a black casual mini skirt. Though it took me some time to take my eyes off her legs, but when I did, I realized that both of us were dressed differently.

I was in my jogging gear – shoes, shorts and t-shirt. And she was wearing a very hot, casual mini skirt with a lovely top. Though I’m generally very confident about myself, but I could see it was a total mismatch. So I asked her if she wanted me to go home and change into something better. She just looked at my shorts, smiled and said – ‘let others look at your sexy legs sweety’. And as mentioned above, you cannot argue with ladies.

And (to add to my agony) she decided to go to the popular Inorbit Mall instead of going to an isolated coffee shop. So, both of us stepped inside one of the busiest malls in Mumbai in our respective (but very different) attire. And first time in three years, I noticed that it was indeed a very popular Mall. There were so many people even on a weekday.

And for some strange reason, I felt that every eye was on both of us when we entered the Mall. And for some very weird reason, I felt that all of them were smiling. I mean how many times do you get to see a very well dressed beautiful lady walking inside a Mall with a man wearing jogging shoes with sports shorts and t-shirt? We were indeed looking like a very odd couple.

I wanted to rush to Barista when she decided to check Charles & Keith for shoes. As we were getting inside the showroom, I followed the salesman’s eyes. I saw him looking at the lady with admiration. And then, he noticed me behind her and there is no way on earth I could have missed the funny expression in his eyes.

And I noticed the same expressions in almost everyone’s eyes who saw us there. leave the men, I even noticed women looking at her legs, then my legs and then back to her legs with smiles on their faces (god only knows what was so funny). Though there was a difference in the way they were checking us out – men & women. While my lady garnered admiring looks from both sexes, I noticed women giving me funny looks before checking out the lady with admiration (and at times envy). And I don’t think I need to mention that men ignored me completely (and I don’t blame them also – amid all the embarrassment, even I couldn’t take my eyes off her hot legs at times).

And I’ve absolutely no doubts in my mind that the lady was enjoying every bit of it. And to add salt to my wound, she threw the car keys to me when we were done and said – ‘You drive – and concentrate on the road”. Though her naughty smile was too hot to ignore, I just pretended as nothing has happened and took the driver’s seat. And thanks to Mumbai traffic, I had no choice but to concentrate on the road and not on her hot legs.

And when we said goodnight to each other, the smile on her face told me that she enjoyed every bit of it. As for me, I can just hope that none of my friend’s noticed me last night. Though something inside me tells me that the whole world noticed those two pairs of legs – a very hot pair of legs, and mine.
